Description
HCG Purbegen (commonly spelled Pubergen) is a brand name for human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), a hormone medication available as an injectable powder (typically in vials of 1,000 IU, 2,000 IU, 5,000 IU, or 10,000 IU). It is manufactured by companies like Sanzyme Ltd. and is widely used in fertility treatments, primarily in countries such as India and the Philippines.
What It Is and How It Works
Pubergen contains purified human chorionic gonadotropin, a hormone naturally produced by the placenta during pregnancy. In the body, hCG mimics luteinizing hormone (LH) (with a small amount of FSH-like activity).
• In women: It triggers final maturation and release of eggs from the ovaries (ovulation), often used as a “trigger shot” in assisted reproduction like IVF or for treating infertility due to ovulation issues.
• In men: It stimulates the Leydig cells in the testes to produce testosterone and supports sperm production (spermatogenesis). It can treat male hypogonadism, low sperm count, or delayed puberty.
The medication comes as a sterile freeze-dried powder that is reconstituted with sterile water before injection (usually intramuscular or subcutaneous).
Medical Uses
• Female infertility — To induce ovulation.
• Male infertility/hypogonadism — To increase testosterone and sperm count.
• Cryptorchidism (undescended testes in boys).
• Sometimes for other hormonal imbalances.
